At my meeting this morning the topic of latkes came up. We NEED to feel our holiday celebrations. So, how do we handle the calorie laden related food. Do we:
EAT IT as is, but less often?
Find a way to make it less caloric? lighter version?
Less of it? (If I’d usually have three, having one…)
For example. Chanuka is celebrated for 8 days. Do I have the original oil fried latke and enjoy but just one night for special?
Do Ii find a more user friendly substitution (see link to butternut squash latkes)?
Do I have a taste or smaller portion of the original maybe a few times during the holiday?
No one answer is correct.
Feel free to sub out latkes for whatever special food means holiday to you.
And this same process goes for any other holiday or celebratory time during the year. If I have a week with 3 dinners out and a wedding… i may choose to only get dessert at one of these events, for example. I may opt to have a spoonful of dessert numerous times. You get the idea.
Anyway you slice it, be mindful!
