Last week I spent 3 days away in the Miami area. It was what I call a ‘working vacation’ as our main concern was trying to give much needed attention to my mother in law who lives down there. But let’s face it, it was still away and we were at a lovely hotel and we were eating out. I wasn’t cooking, shopping for the food, planning meals, prepping them or cleaning up after them! That being said, for someone who gets on the scale almost every morning, it is always a little scary to be so out of routine and without the scale to help me monitor myself with all that restaurant eating!
Ironically, when I went to WW to weigh in on Friday, I had lost .2 which in my book is staying the same. Of course I was pleased but I also wanted to analyze if this was deserved or not. We ate out 3 breakfasts, two dinners, and once got frozen yogurt. We went to this little breakfast place each day that had awesome baguettes which I had each morning but I know I can order it with an egg white omelette with veggies. We made breakfast into brunch and skipped a real lunch. At both dinners out I ate very nicely but tried to make decent choices. I also note that at home I can dig in for seconds where in the restaurant there are no seconds… The first night everyone skipped dessert and the second night we all shared one dessert. On the day we flew home we picked up food for the plane and again, I chose wisely. Also, instead of loading up on nosh for the hotel room or making use of the stocked minibar we went to the supermarket and got some grapes, other fresh fruit and crackers. I made use of the gym and pool as well. I tracked what I ate to the best of my ability. And, once home, I went to weigh in on Friday. So I didn’t take a total vacation from my weight loss journey.
So, scale or no scale, I attempted to make decent choices. I still enjoyed what I had and of course enjoyed the feeling on being on vacation.
Keep mindful,
Miriam
